Personal Statement I am 21 years old, with a degree in International Economics. I have spent the last 6 months working as an English teacher in Fukue, Japan. The Jet Programme offered me a unique opportunity to learn and experience a very different and diverse culture; it was an opportunity to develop my skills in communication and adapting to different situations. My whole time here has been a personal challenge, yet hugely enjoyable. I am constantly aware of the huge differences in culture and lifestyle between Nations. I was born in India and can speak 5 languages; because of this I describe myself as International and am aiming for a lifestyle the suits this description. I am looking for a career that uses my training in Economics as well as my language skills and skills taken from previous work experience. I describe myself as an able communicator, able to work with people from any background, and with the drive to achieve my goals. Many of these have been personal, such as running a marathon, learning Karate and how to swim. Others have been professional, for example my website at www.deveninjapan.com was written within a week from scratch, and I have a strong level of Japanese considering the time I have spent here. My time in Japan has been an excellent opportunity and a personal challenge, for learning about Japan and myself. It has given me a range of skills and experiences that I can bring to whichever career I finally chose. |
