July 2003

I hang out with the old crew for a while, Jen, Spenser, Amy, Ros and Grant, say my goodbyes, and hope to see them all again soon.  I leave before they do - I go on a three week holiday and when I come back they're gone!  It's a whole bunch of new people!  More about them later though.

I go to India, via Hong Kong and Bangkok.  Hong Kong is cool, I stay with my high school buddy Simon, and his friends.  I get a taste of the ex-pat lifestyle.  Very cool.

After this, I'm off to India to see my family, especially my mum and sister who are visiting from England to go to my cousins wedding.  After an initial two days of culture shock, I settle into life and realise that two and half weeks is nowhere near enough for me to get the most from the visit.  I do some shopping, and go on a road trip for a weekend, but the most important thing is seeing my family again.  It has been over 7 years, I will have to go again soon.

Finally, Thailand.  Three days in Bangkok, and the city is much nicer than I expected, I feel like I could live there if that's how things worked out.  The sky train is a great way to see the sights, and Patrick and Brendan surprise me by showing up at my hotel the night before I leave.  It's all good, but I regret not spending the extra three days in India.

August 2003

I meet the new bunch.  Alayna, Michael, Jen and Misty turn up.  First impressions are good.  It's a bit weird without the old gang, but I do my best to help them settle in.

I turn 22 on the 19th.  With it being a new group, I don't get any overly cool presents, but Jen takes me out for Ice Cream, and I go out with a mix of old and new friends.  All in all its good, and I do get at least one good present.

Then we have the conference for all of the new ALT's, organised by yours truly, with a little help from my friends the Nagasaki Working Committee.  Here are the new kids:

These are the Goto kids.                                This is the Fukue Bunch.

September 2003

What happens in September?  I get serious and start applying for jobs and studying for the proficiency exam in December.  I make the most of what is left of the summer by going surfing for the first time ever and other ocean stuff.
