April 2003

Khai, Rij, and Nas fly down to Tokyo at the start of April, and I meet them at Narita Airport.  We railpass it around Japan for a week visiting Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima and Fukuoka on our way back to Fukue.  They spend two weeks on the Island before heading back up to Tokyo and seeing more of Japan on the way.  The end of March and beginning of April is the most fun I have had since coming here.

May 2003

Khai comes back!  He loves the place too much to leave.  Some sparrows start making a nest in the landing of my apartment.

The other thing big thing is the Iron Man Triathlon on Fukue.  Swimming 3.8km, Cycle 180km and run a full marathon.  Mike and Craig complete it - they have all of my respects.  I get to celebrate with the winners and they sign my hat.

At the end of may I have a 'business trip' in Kobe - it's the renewers conference.  I stretch it out and visit Osaka and Kyoto too.  It is wicked, probably the most fun part of Japan.  I meet some very cool ALT's.  They know who they are.

June 2003

I make it back from Kyoto... It's the first time I'm not looking forward to getting back to the Island.  Osaka emphasises just how little there is to do here.  It's Grants Birthday.  The sparrows have babies which soon learn to fly.  There is a Typhoon during which the mother sparrow dies.  I book my summer holidays - two days in HongKong, 2 weeks in India and a few days in Thailand.  Cool huh? 

I realise I'm going to have to say goodbye to all of the other Gaijin ALT's on Fukue very soon.
